ROME ? The great-nephew of the Libyan king ousted by Moammar Gadhafi says his people should decide if they want a monarch as Libya forges a democracy after decades of dictatorship.
So far leaders of the rebels who swept Gadhafi out of power haven't asked Prince Mohammed el Hasan el Rida el Senussi to play any role in his homeland.
The prince, who was almost 7 when Gadhafi came to power in a 1969 coup, told The Associated Press in an interview in Rome on Wednesday that his family is a "servant of the Libyan people."
The National Transitional Council, Libya's temporary rulers, say that while the exiled former royals are welcome back, no institutional role is envisioned for them. El Senussi says Libya's people should decide what form of democracy they want.
